After
Brit-Marie serves us a Sami breakfast, she’ll
show us the museum she has built which portrays interesting
aspects of Sami culture.
A
bus will pick us up and take us to a nearby village,
the home of our guide Nils’ parents, Nedre Soppero.
You will have a brief opportunity to browse and shop
for Sami handicrafts there. Then we’ll drive
(2 hrs.) to Kiruna for lunch at the Scandic Ferrum
hotel restaurant and be on our way (2 hrs. drive)
to Riksgransen, a Swedish spa resort in the mountains.
Riksgransen is located at a gorgeous location on the
border of Norway, world-renowned for excellent skiing
and off-piste slopes (off-piste slopes are un-maintained
slopes on open mountain faces).
We
should arrive in Riksgransen at 4 or 5 in the evening.
Riksgransen is both the name of the small town as
well as the resort hotel where we will stay. To see
more about this hotel, take a look at their website
http://www.riksgransen.nu
(although some of this website is in English, to browse
the pictures you have to click on the Swedish menu
on the left.) After settling into your room, I recommend
a short hike in the mountains before dinner.
I expect you’ll thoroughly enjoy our buffet
dinner in the award winning restaurant, Lapplandia,
located in the hotel. In addition to excellent, beautifully
prepared food, the restaurant offers great service
and a fantastic mountain view.
After dinner you can relax in the Jacuzzi or the
sauna, take a swim in the pool, or enjoy the fresh
winter air from the warmth of the hot tub on the open
porch.
Tonight
half of the tour guests will get a massage at the
Spa (the other half of the guests will be given a
massage the following night). I felt like a new man
after a relaxing massage and a bubble
bath – I highly recommend it!
In the evening you can have some drinks at the Hotel's
After Ski bar/night club, called Grönan.
