After breakfast enjoy a leisurely morning among the mountains. You may
book an extra adventure activity for yourself or take a hike in the
nearby mountains. We will depart Riksgransen after an early lunch
buffet at the Lapplandia restaurant.
We
will then take a private bus to Jukkasjärvi,
the home of the original Icehotel. The drive is just
2 hours. Upon arrival, we will check into the Icehotel,
a 60-room hotel created completely out of ice, redesigned
and rebuilt each winter by an international group
of artists. You can see some amazing pictures of it
at their website http://www.icehotel.com.
You will sleep on a comfortable mattress with reindeer
skins and a sleeping bag that they provide. I found
that it was no problem staying warm at night. You
also have the option to stay in an attractive heated
hotel room.
You will have a couple of free hours to:
- Browse the Ice Art
- Try a flavored vodka drink at the Ice Bar
- Visit a local Sami museum
- Shop for Sami souvenirs
- Visit Glass blowing artist Philippe Sansaricq’s
studio
Our guide, Nils, will prepare a final Sami dinner party
for us in a large lavvu (Sami tent), with an open fire.
You can choose from traditional Sami dishes, and we
will enjoy some good wine as well. This will be our
chance to reminisce about our adventures with each other
and enjoy our last night in the arctic.
Nils will then lead us to the IceGlobe
Theater, a theater made from ice, beautifully
designed by the Icehotel artists. Here we will watch
the evening’s performance, which will either
be an opera, a Shakespeare play, or a rock concert.
Then enjoy the night in the Icehotel!
